Evoque Communications was founded by two strategic communications professionals, Natalie J. Miller and Jessica H. Ouwerkerk. We're dedicated to helping our clients achieve their goals through effective communications initiatives. Utilizing our extensive experience in public relations, marketing, and event planning, we develop creative strategies and cost-effective solutions that achieve results. Our efforts have engaged thousands of residents and businesses in water conservation activities, enhanced our clients' reputations within their communities, and gained national recognition for outstanding communications program design.
Natalie Jean Miller has over a decade of communications experience in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. She began her career working at a non-profit in the sixth largest county in California, focused on economic development, infrastructure, and housing. She worked closely with the CEO on strategic initiatives and planned a multitude of high-profile events, including a special event with former President George W. Bush.
A desire to serve the public led her to the water industry where she played a vital role in helping gain community support for one of the largest water purification projects of its kind in the world. In addition, she worked closely on the development and implementation of educational events, programs, and materials to enhance public awareness. Moving over to the private sector, she drove environmental initiatives, both internally and externally, that were just emerging at the time, at one of the largest private action sports companies.
A passion for impacting the youth community led her to take a brief pause from communications and receive her teaching credential. She taught multiple subjects, including ocean science to K-12 students, and worked closely with underprivileged youth through intervention programs. Natalie returned to communications where she worked for a city in their public utilities division and in the healthcare industry.
Both entrepreneurial spirits at heart, Ms. Miller and Ms. Ouwerkerk created Evoque Communications in 2017. Natalie serves as the lead on special events, co-lead on public relations efforts, and supports all other areas of the business. Natalie is excited she now has the opportunity to combine all of her passions and help a wide array of clients reach their goals.
Natalie holds a Bachelors degree in Communications with a specialty in Public Relations and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, Fullerton. She enjoys staying active with running, hiking, and has big plans to learn how to ski now that she has made Colorado her home. In her free time, she likes watching movies, and spending time with her husband and their two rambunctious boys.
Jessica Hanley Ouwerkerk brings over 15 years of experience and proven results in public affairs and marketing. She began her career working in-house for a regional water agency, starting as a Public Affairs intern and working her way up to Public Affairs Manager. During this time, she designed and executed a wide range of award-winning marketing, public relations, and community outreach initiatives. Her "Water: Do More with Less" water awareness campaign was awarded the American Water Works Association's Public Communications Achievement Award, and her Smart Irrigation Month marketing campaign was selected as the best water conservation campaign of the year by the national Irrigation Association.
Following a nearly ten-year career at the water agency, Jessica started her own communications consulting company, Hanley Communications. Through this consultancy she assisted medium-to-large water utilities and a handful of private and non-profit clients with digital marketing, customer communications, and branding initiatives.
In 2017, Ms. Ouwerkerk and Ms. Miller teamed-up to create Evoque Communications, a boutique communications firm specializing in public relations, marketing, and event planning, with an emphasis on the water industry. Jessica serves as the lead on marketing projects, co-lead on public relations efforts, and in a support position on special events.
Jessica is a firm believer in the value of education. She holds a Bachelors degree in Sociology from University of California, Los Angeles; a Certificate in Marketing from University of California, Irvine; and a Masters degree in Communication Management from the University of Southern California. Her areas of expertise include strategic communication plans, water conservation marketing, writing, and stakeholder collaboration.
When not helping clients achieve their communications goals, Jessica can be found on the tennis courts, hiking trails, yoga studios, and ski slopes of Colorado. She also enjoys cooking, good wine, and spending time with her husband and their two daughters.
